Honister Slate Mine is launching a new package for group wanting to take a unique excursion into the subterranean world.
The 900 year old mine wends its way through 11 miles miles of tunnels (although you won’t see All of them!) deep in the heart of Fleetwith Pike, taking in narrow passages and incredible cathedral-like caverns along the way.
Lasting around 1.5 hours, mine tours are also available seven days a week, including the “Kimberley” tour, which is virtually all on the flat and suitable for all ages – previous visitors even include a 101 year old man! For the more adventurous, the classic “Honister” tour is ideal for anyone who dares to go out onto the edge of the mountainside, and then up and deep inside. Bespoke mine tours are also available for groups. There are even specialist Heritage and Ecological tours in the summer months.
Groups of 12+ people can now enjoy 10% off any mine tour. The coach driver will also be offered a complimentary mine tour, as well as a light lunch and a hot drink in the SkyHi Cafe. There is ample parking for coaches and special access arrangements can be made for pre-booked larger coaches concerned about the steeper gradients leading up to the top of the Borrowdale Valley.
